NCAR is well-known for its strong performance in the Institute fro Scientific Information’s Essential Science Indicators - a resource researchers rely on to conduct ongoing, quantitative analyses of research performance and track trends in science. NCAR appears third in the list of institutes with the highest number of citations in the geosciences, after NASA and NOAA, agencies with multiple centers.

These reviews are a strong indicator of how well NCAR is fulfilling all three aspects of its mission:

To understand the behavior of the atmosphere and related physical, biological and social systems;
To support, enhance and extend the capabilities of the university community and the broader scientific community, nationally and internationally;
To foster transfer of knowledge and technology for the betterment of life on Earth.

Publications About NCAR

NCAR creates a variety of publications to serve our many audiences. These range from news and feature stories, to reports such as the NCAR Annual Report, which includes research accomplishments from the perspective of both NCAR and its laboratories.

There are also monthly, quarterly and annual publications that describe our research and the accomplishments of our staff and collaborators. Examples include Staff Notes, which is written largely for internal audiences and highlights news and achievements of NCAR personnel, as well as those in our parent organization, UCAR. The UCAR Quarterly and Highlights serve the community of universities and organizations engaged in atmospheric and related research, providing readers with updates on NCAR, UCAR and UCAR’s Office of Programs’ research and collaborations. In addition to these materials, NCAR also regularly creates one-off publications that draw attention to specific efforts, such as the work we’re doing with partners around the world, or details on individual projects, for example, the Community Climate System model. With our publications available online, readers can easily learn the latest about the research that we and are partners are delving into.
