The NCAR Strategic Initiative Fund supports large research and development projects that will provide a scientific or technical foundation for innovative solutions to problems confronted in NCAR's mission and strategic plan. We expect to have $2,000,000 available in FY 2004 for new initiatives. The funding will be limited to $500,000 maximum per proposal per year, and requests can be for one, two, or three years of support. Funding for continuing initiatives will be allocated through a separate process.

The NCAR Directors' Committee will evaluate the proposals using the NSF Merit Review Criteria and in accordance with the NCAR Stategic Plan. The NCAR Director will determine the final disposition of funds based on the Directors' Committee recommendations and available funding. Awards will be announced on December 1, 2003.
