         NSA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING: 20 November 2006

(1) Interviews of Candidates for NCAR Science Advisor

The committee conducted interviews of the two candidates for NCAR Science 
Advisor. After the interviews, the committee deliberated and reached a 
decision on which candidate to offer the position. The entire committee was 
present with the exception of Rolando Garcia, who recused himself.

(2) Meeting with Guy Brasseur

Guy Brasseur (Director, ESSL) met with the committee. He said that he had 
heard about concerns about the evolution of NCAR and that morale among the 
scientific staff was possibly low. He would like to give the scientific staff 
an opportunity to express their opinions, particularly on future scientific 
directions at NCAR. Some committee members agreed that there were morale 
problems, brought on in part by the reorganization, including barriers between 
labs and concerns about the process of creation and funding of initiatives.

The question was raised of what would be best type of meetings for Guy to 
conduct with the scientific staff. Some sentiment was expressed in favor of 
keeping the meeting size small, in which case a number of meetings would need 
to be held. Further discussion is needed to decide on the best approach.
